About Katra

Katra or Katra Vaishno Devi, as it is popularly known, is a small town in Reasi district in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, India, situated in the foothills of the Trikuta Mountains, where the holy shrine of Vaishno Devi is located. It is located 42 km from the city of Jammu.

Situated at the base of the Trikuta Mountains, Katra, a major religious destination in Jammu, is the base camp for the devotees who are visiting the sacred shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi. The expedition to the shrine from Katra is a walking journey of around 13 km and is full of beautiful views, and although it is visited throughout the year, the best time to visit it is from March to October.
 
Travelers can easily access Katra, a small town in Udhampur District, from Jammu city, which is around 45 km away.

 About Mata vaishno devi temple

The Mata Vaishno Devi Temple is a Hindu temple in Katra, Jammu and Kashmir. It's located in the Trikuta Mountains, 12 km from Katra and 61 km from Jammu. The temple is 1,585 meters (5,200 ft) high.

The temple is one of 108 Shakti Peethas dedicated to Durga, who is worshipped as Vaishno Devi. It's considered the most important Shaktipeeth because it's believed that the skull of the Goddess Sati fell here. 
The temple is also known as Mata Rani, Vaishnavi, and Trikuta. The goddess is depicted as a five and a half foot tall rock with three heads in the Mata Vaishno Devi Cave. 
The temple is managed by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, which was formed in 1986

Not far from Srinagar is the town of Gulmarg, the “Meadow of Flowers,” at an elevation of about 8,500 feet (2,600 metres). It affords magnificent views of the Vale of Kashmir and of Nanga Parbat, which at 26,660 feet (8,126 metres) is one of the highest peaks in the Himalayas. The Vale of Kashmir contains the area’s most fertile agricultural land and is one of the most densely populated parts of the Kashmir region.

About Pahalgam

Pahalgam is a hill station in the north Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. Mountain trails run northeast to Amarnath Cave Temple, a Hindu shrine and site of the annual Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage. Fairs & Festivals in Pahalgam
Pahalgam is the starting point of the annual Amarnath yatra (holy journey) to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath, which is said to be the abode of Lord Shiva. Every year in July/August, thousands of pilgrims descend on Pahalgam on their way to the holy cave.

Day 1 - Jammu - Katra

Arrival early morning at Jammu and transfer to Katra (50 kms - 1.5 hrs). Check into hotel and process to Vaishnodevi Darshan, Please note : (Total 13 kms walk to the temple that takes about 4-5 hours). Enroute stops at Adhkwari Temple and darshan at Baba Bhaironath Temple is recommended). During Summer and peak travel season it may be advisable to start the climb previous evening. Once queue tickets are purchased the wait period could be half an hour to 3 hours depending on the rush. Day 2 - Katra - Pahalgam
